Besides the Christmas Story house, there's the Rock %26amp; Roll Hall of Fame and lots of museums at University Circle. We have lots of malls in the suburbs. The toboggan runs and chalet would be open in the Metro parks in Strongsville. The world class zoo with Rain Forest, etc. is open year round. If you're into music and concerts, there's House of Blues downtown besides lots of other venues.
Cleveland is one of the nation's cultural centers with one of the world's best orchestras and concert halls. There are many special Christmas shows at Severance Hall, many featuring the Cleveland Orchestra, including a superb production of Handel's "Messiah." Buy tickets early once the December schedule is released as they go quickly.

Cleveland also has one of the nation's best art museums, and admission to the general galleries still is free. The museum also has special events and performances throughout the year.

The Cleveland Art Museum is located within walking distance of the Cleveland Museum of Natural History, which features an excellent planetarium, and the Cleveland Botanical Garden, which has Glass House exhibits that are a joy in winter. During the Christmas season, the botanical garden has a winter show which complements the skating on an artificial rink in the nearby Wade Oval.

Cleveland's Playhouse Square, the nation's second largest peforming arts center in the U.S. after New York City's Lincoln Center, always features several events during the Christmas season. "A Christmas Carol" already is scheduled for December 2010.

If you like winter hikes, it would be tough to beat the Holden Arboretum, one of nation's largest and best, just 30 minutes east of downtown.

Holden is very near both one of the nation's best farm parks and the Kirtland Temple, the first Mormon temple and uniquely open to public as it is not controlled by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, based in Salt Lake City, but by the Community of Christ, another Mormon sect. The Kirtland Temple is a magnificent example of pre-Civil War carpentry.

And, of course, there's the Christmas Story House and Museum in the Tremont district, a Cleveland arts, entertainment and dining district. After a visit, head to A Cookie and a Cupcake, Lilly's Handmade Chocolates, or Lucky's Cafe for some refreshments. Or you could head to Sokolowski's, an ethnic culinary landmark that has gained a national reputation.

The Cleveland Metroparks Zoo is rather compact and so is a great zoo to visit in the winter, when animals (e.g., polar bears and seals) may behave very differently than in summer months. Its Rain Forest exhibit, often ranked among the best in the country, offers a great contrast to the winter weather.
